March 15, 2018 – Day 136 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – The Car

March 15, 2018 – Day 136 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – The Car – Today I found another car for my machine series! It’s seen much better days and has been setting in this empty lot in Guthrie, Ky for some time now. Find something you enjoy photographing and turn it into a personal series project. You’ll be a better photographer for it!

March 14, 2018 – Day 135 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Jordan and the Mask

March 14, 2018 – Day 135 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Jordan and the Mask – Well, as I was editing and posting my mask picture yesterday my nephew Jordan came for a visit and the first thing he did was mimic the mask! Of course, it had to be today’s picture! Kids and their reactions always make for good pictures! Be aware of them and keep your camera close by for those moments!

March 11, 2018 – Day 132 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – The Mask

March 11, 2018 – Day 132 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – The Mask – Today I found this mask on the wall of the restaurant where members of the West Kentucky Photography met for lunch. I like the starkness of the mask against the plain wall. Not much question what the subject of the photo is here! Keeping your picture as simple as possible will go a long way and help make a stronger picture! A mentor in my life passed on this bit of wisdom to me long ago, If it doesn’t contribute to your photo, then eliminate it by changing your angle, lens or whatever it takes to make the picture strong as possible when you shoot the photo, not later in the darkroom or computer.

March 11, 2018 – Day 132 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Upset

March 11, 2018 – Day 132 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Upset – Today’s photo is of my nephew Jayden in a less than happy mood, which lasted all of about 30 seconds, when something didn’t quite go his way! As hard as it may be emotionally sometimes, photograph all the emotions in your family’s life, not just the smiles! That is life!

NS 168 at West Douglas, Princeton, Indiana

March 10, 2018 – Norfolk Southern Railway’s NS 168 moves by West Douglas as it works on doing a pick-up at the Yard in Princeton, Indiana before proceeding on east with a short 1,500 foot train, with NS 8156 and BNSF Warbonnet, 737 as power.

March 8, 2018 – Day 129 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Shadows

March 8, 2018 – Day 129 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Shadows – Who isn’t intrigued by shadows?? Today I took my nephew Jayden to the park after school and shot this photo of his and my shadows being “Zombies,” according to him! Shooting with your smart phone can be a lot easier than your digital SLR, as it’s smaller, lighter and in many ways easier to use. Just learn it’s limitations by shooting! Then put it away and play “monster” chase around the playground!!!

March 7, 2018 – Day 128 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Pulling Teeth

March 7, 2018 – Day 128 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Pulling Teeth – While waiting in line at school to pick up my nephew Jayden today, this quip comes from my niece Elaina in the backseat, which resulted in today’s picture!

Elaina: It’s not fun to have your teeth pulled, unless you’re the doctor!

You can turn almost any situation into and interesting picture, if you keep your mind’s eye open!!

March 6, 2018 – Day 127 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – By the sea

March 6, 2018 – Day 127 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – By the sea – Well, kind of! Today I met some of the fine folks from our local photography club at Captain D’s for lunch and grabbed another “lamp” photo. I guess this is going to be another series as I seem to always find a lamp photo of some type when we meet for lunch!

March 5, 2018 – Day 124 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Bad Hair Day and Cookie Monster

March 5, 2018 – Day 124 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Bad Hair Day and Cookie Monster – I really think my niece Elaina is enjoying her chocolate chip cookie from Subway! When photographing kids in your life you don’t have to limit it to when they’re all dressed up and looking prim and proper! Show the messy side of their lives as well, that’s what life is all about sometimes!

March 4, 2018 – Day 123 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Reflections

March 4, 2018 – Day 123 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Reflections – Photographing your little ones as they perform everyday tasks will make for wonderful memories down the road! The simple act of Jayden washing his hands made for a bit stronger photograph by including his reflection in the mirror. Always look for ways to make your photo stronger!

March 1, 2018 – Day 121 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Journey

March 1, 2018 – Day 121 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Journey – Today my niece Journey kept me company as I edited train pictures on my computer. She’s, and all my other nieces and nephews are such a joy to be around and photograph! Makes getting my daily black and white photo a lot easier, plus allows for some great moments between us as I do so. More often than not, at some point, I will be asked to turn the camera (iPhone or otherwise) over to them and let them take pictures! I’m so happy that they all enjoy taking photographs and hope it continues through out their lives and they continue to have “fun” with doing so. Encourage the young ones in your life to take pictures!!! You’ll never regret it!

February 28, 2018 – Day 120 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Jordan

February 28, 2018 – Day 120 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Jordan – Caught my nephew in mid-stride today as he moved between rooms here at the house. I love the light and framing of this shot. Keep an eye out for interesting scenes that make for a good picture and if it needs a human element, just wait. One will usually come along!

February 27, 2018 – Day 120 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Art from Art

February 27, 2018 – Day 120 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Art from Art – Today some of us from our local photography club met for lunch at our local Pizza Hut. I captured this photo of a lamp and things on the way in a corner booth and happy with the way it turned out. Art from art! Pictures are everywhere, just keep your eyes open!!

February 26, 2018 – Day 119 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Winner!

February 26, 2018 – Day 119 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Winner! – Monday’s after Damion’s Karate Practice we head off to church for youth choir practice. When we get there it’s always a race to see which one of us gets to the door first! For some reason he seems to always win! Today I decided to capture our race and used the burst mode on my iPhone to shoot pictures as I ran behind him for the door and this is my favorite from the burst! Making great memories!! He received his golden crown today for learning all of his kindergarten site words for the year at school!

Day 118 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Take my picture

February 25, 2018 – Day 118 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Take my picture – Today at lunch my great-great niece Journey asked me to take her picture! All of them (12) do this from time to time and seem to always have a smile that makes me feel all warm inside! If the little one in your life asks for you to take their picture, don’t hesitate! I shot this one using the portrait mode on the iPhone. I love the effect it gives on portraits, but your subject can’t be moving around much, as it takes a second or two for the camera to do it’s thing!

Daily iPhone 7 Plus Black and White Challenge Photos

Well, I’m behind posting my black and white challenge photos again so here’s a post to catch up! I have been shooting them, just not getting them posted. I’ll try to do better!!!

February 24, 2018 – Day 117 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B&W Photo Challenge – Williams Motor Company – I spent the day railfanning and came across this old truck. I’ve been working on a series I call “Machines” and this one I grabbed in Wingo, Ky. Personal projects are great when it comes to photography. They can give you a common thread that you can build a book around down the road, or gallery display. They can also challenge you and help you become a better photographer.
