I was surprised at how well it did, despite how slow the camera responds when in portrait mode.

We ran into each other at Kroger and he was gracious enough to all me to photograph him. I shot this using the portrait mode on my iPhone 7 Plus and cropped it square as I like the way it looks better.

He’d forgot all about it and when she pulled it out of the bag it was like a new hat all over again for him. Ah, the simple joys in life!

November 11, 2018 – Day 376 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B/W Photo Challenge – Veteran’s Day – I knew my B&W portrait today would be one of a Veteran, as it is Veterans Day after all. I attended our parade here in Madisonville, Ky, which is said to be the largest in the state, both as a Veteran myself and to watch my niece and nephews in their first parade. While there I found my portrait subject, Ralph D. Bruce, Senior Chief, USN, and grabbed this shot of him as we were chatting about his service, as we waited for the parade to begin.

November 7, 2018 – Day 372 – iPhone 7 Plus Daily B/W Photo Challenge – Brad Downall – Today’s portrait is of Brad Downall, the Executive Director of the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts here in Madisonville, Ky. A 1983 graduate in theatre from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, Brad worked in technical theatre in the Twin Cities and Duluth before moving to Madisonville, Kentucky in 1991 to serve as the first Technical Director at the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts at Madisonville Community College. Brad was promoted to Executive Director in 1999 and has focused on growing community-based activities such as the Summer Arts Academies and reviving community theatre while maintaining the quality of the presenting program and arts-in-education programs. Brad is also a member of the Kentucky Presenters’ Network and is on the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Theatre Association.

I tried to get my portrait today of my niece Elaina and she just wasn’t in the mood, so this is what I ended up with! I still love it as it is so her!! Don’t worry about not being conventional in your portrait work as it will allow you to have more storytelling images sometimes! Think outside the box!
