BNSF 7298 heads up 5 units with a manifest train as they pass over the diamonds at Santa Fe Junction on June 30th, 2022.

Santa Fe Junction sees on average over 100 trains a day and it hosts the double decked railroad (ATSF Double Deck Railroad) bridge that crosses the Kansas River into Missouri, a triple crossing. The junction is partly in Missouri and Kansas and sees BNSF, UP, KCT, Amtrak, KCS, NS and CP traffic, from what I saw during my visit.

The tracks through the junction have been reduced or changed around over the years, but the area remains one of KC’s Busiest locations.

UP 5970 leads CSX S988 as it heads south at Anaconda at Robards, Kentucky with two new Brightline Green and Pink commuter train sets, as they head for Florida, on the Henderson Subdivision on July 16th, 2022.

These train sets were built by Siemens in Sacramento, California and are destined for service along Brightline’s routes in Florida.

According to Wikipedia: Brightline is a privately run intercity rail route between Miami and West Palm Beach, Florida that runs on track owned by Florida East Coast Railway. An extension from West Palm Beach to Orlando International Airport is expected to open in 2023.

I had a great trip and although drones weren’t allowed during the photo runbys, we chased by car on Sunday afternoon so we could grab some aerials as the train was moving between runby locations in Robinson Canyon. The trailing unit is an Evansville Western locomotive, which is also owned by the PAL. They picked the coal up at Warrior Coal Mine, outside Madisonville, KY. I’m not sure if it was headed to Calvert City loadout or somewhere on the Evansville Western route up in southern Indiana. August 3rd, 2022, CSX L392, the local that runs between Casky yard in Hopkinsville, KY and Radnor yard in Nashville, TN, sits at the south end of Casky yard at Hopkinsville, as it waits for a crew to take it south with several CIT units (Ex-BN) dead in tow. I’m told they are headed to Progress Rail in Chattanooga for scrap and units are CBFX 6034 (CIT), 6027, 6022 and 6032, behind CSXT 5283 and 5425. Amtrak 144 and 14 pass through Santa Fe Junction as it heads for Union Station in downtown Kansas City, Missouri on June 30th, 2022, from Chicago, Illinois. Santa Fe Junction sees on average over 100 trains a day and it hosts the double decked railroad (ATSF Double Deck Railroad) bridge that crosses the Kansas River into Missouri, a triple crossing in addition to Tower 3, which is used by maintenance of way these days. The junction is partly in Missouri and Kansas and sees BNSF, UP, KCT, Amtrak, KCS, NS and CP traffic, from what I saw during my visit. The tracks through the junction have been reduced or changed around over the years, but the area remains one of KC’s Busiest locations. Amtrak 144 and 14 pass through Santa Fe Junction as it heads for Union Station in downtown Kansas City, Missouri on June 30th, 2022, on its way to Chicago, Illinois.

Santa Fe Junction sees on average over 100 trains a day and it hosts the double decked railroad (ATSF Double Deck Railroad) bridge that crosses the Kansas River into Missouri, a triple crossing in addition to Tower 3, which is used by maintenance of way these days. The junction is partly in Missouri and Kansas and sees BNSF, UP, KCT, Amtrak, KCS, NS and CP traffic, from what I saw during my visit.

The tracks through the junction have been reduced or changed around over the years, but the area remains one of KC’s Busiest locations.

I'm told that lately this intermodal has been running with these autoracks loaded with Teslas on their way south. Today's train had 25 autoracks. The cars range in price from $46,000 - $120,000, depending on the model. Military Humvees cost around $70,000 each. Upgraded humvee variants, called armored or up-armored Humvees, carry higher price tags that range from $160,000 to $220000. A lot of money being moved here, not even including the intermodal shipments!
