When you look at this photo there’s a few interesting and new things about it! First notice the engine number is CSXT 512 and it’s leading M512-12 as it heads north at Mortons Gap, Ky on October 12th, 2023, on the Henderson Subdivision! Now, what’s the odds you’d have all the 12s? The other new thing is the camera I used to shoot this picture. I’ve upgraded my Nikon D800 to the Nikon D810! There’s not a big difference between the two cameras, but the D800 had some issues and was starting to show its age. I bought it new back in 2012 when they first came out and have made 240,000 exposures on it since then, so I think I got my money’s worth out of it! I really loved the camera, and it served me well, but it was time for an upgrade. I did purchase the D810 used, but it’s in like new condition and only has just over 6,000 exposures on it. It’s a much faster camera, but the sensor and everything is pretty much the same as the D800 so there is no real learning curve here. I’m leaving tomorrow for a weeklong trip on two steam photo charters, the first at the Durango & Silverton in Colorado and the second at Chama, NM and this new D810 will be put to work capturing steam!! When you look at this photo there’s a few interesting and new things about it! First notice the engine number is CSXT 512 and it’s leading M512-12 as it heads north at Mortons Gap, Ky on October 12th, 2023, on the Henderson Subdivision! Now, what is the odds you’d have all the 12s?

The other new thing is the camera I used to shoot this picture. I have upgraded my Nikon D800 to the Nikon D810! There is not a big difference between the two cameras, but the D800 had some issues and was starting to show its age. I bought it new back in 2012 when they first came out and have made 240,000 exposures on it since then, so I think I got my moneys worth out of it! Not all units were under power, and they were CSXT 983, 832, 237, 5472, 5418, CEFX 1055 and CSXT 5279. This is the power on the train that I featured in my Saturday Edited Video clip where the clip of this train cost me $500! I had the tripod setup to record the trains passing through the north end of Slaughters as I captured this shot from my drone. After shooting this shot, I flew back to where I was at to land and while landing a gust of wind that blew through a string of empty lumber spine cars blew the tripod over and broke the screen big time on my iPhone 14 Pro, as I was tending to the landing of the drone. I should have let the drone hover till the train passed, but I wanted to get to another spot to catch it again and stepped about 6-8 feet away from the tripod, too far to catch it before it hit the ground. The screen repair for the iPhone 14Pro was $450 plus tax and labor! Was I upset? Of course, but it’s the hazards of the game and so live and learn!
