Today’s portrait is of Gregory Acker at Jesse Stuart Elementary School in Madisonville, Ky. Gregory teaches world music at local colleges and universities, and is an artist-in-residence in community/educational settings around Kentucky. He served two terms in the Peace Corps in Africa, and continued his studies with master drummer Abraham Adzenyah of Ghana. He is also a musical instrument-builder. He is a member of the Kyene Drum Ensemble that is devoted to the study and performance of West African and African Diaspora Music. For more information about his work visit their website at:
